At Written Worlds Melbourne we will be discussing authors, writing and blogging. We already have a few questions to discuss but would love to add your questions! This event will be recorded and put into the podcast.

Questions we will be discussing so far:
What is the best way to promote yourself as a writer?
What is the greatest fear in becoming a freelance writer?
Do authors and writers need a web prescence?
Do you need to be qualified to be a writer?
When can you call yourself a writer?

Please list any questions you may have (general or specific) and we will aim to cover them at the event!

I wrote some notes out recently with regard to pointers i’d like to acknowledge with new writers. Not sure where or how these will fit into the discussion.

Create a brand. Perhaps a pen name, an avatar – useful for recognition and familiarity (particularly with the avatar/logo).

Surround yourself with inspiration – let it evoke inspiration within you. Images, people, inspiration boards, people watching, inspirational people, magazines, galleries (online and otherwise) all act as fuel for your creative fire.

Find your strength as a writer – perhaps you write most efficiently in a certain genre. Is that metaphorical, spiritual, motivational, shocking, raw, fantasy, thriller etc … write of what you know you about.

Try not to be ruled by fear. Be brave. Write for yourself because someone will always identify with your words.

Believe in your passion – have a vision of your goals and work towards that.

Understand what you write for – is it for a career, hobby, an outlet, coping mechanism or a driving passion?

Let your writing flow fast – rework it later.

Always carry a pen and paper. Jot down that line or word or sentence that pops into your head. IT will make for a written piece later.

Understand that your writing skills WILL develop over time. Write every day if you can. It strengthens.
